This Week's Sermon
Rev. Rob Moore, Guest
Preacher
Come Be My
Light
As we continue to enjoy the spring season of light out of
the darkness of winter, many of us look to bring light and love into our
lives more intentionally. We will look at the life and ministry of Mother
Teresa to see how she brought that light and love to the poorest of the
poor even in the midst of her own terrible "dark night of the
soul." Along the way, maybe we can find some wisdom and more light
and love for our own lives.

News and Announcements
Slate Selected for Open Board of
Trustee Positions
The Pathways Nominating Committee has completed its
selection of the slate to be considered for service on the Board of
Trustees. We were blessed with a large and excellent pool of candidates
for the open nominee positions. Anyone of them would have been an
outstanding member of the Board of Trustees and it was not easy selecting
the best candidates to serve at this time. We thank all of the candidates
for offering their services on the Board of Trustees. We were honored to
meet with them and get to know each one a little better.
During the process, we received notice of an additional
Board position opening up due to a resignation and an adjustment to the
length of term for one of the positions. That meant we were searching for
four people instead of three. After much deliberation, the Pathways
Nominating Committee is proud to recommend the following nominees for
service on the Board of Trustees:
- Eugene
Stockton (three-year term)
- Joyce Frey (three-year
term)
- Tracee Fisher (one-year
term)
- Marian Cartwright
(one-year term)
Because Tracee and Marian are filling
partial terms, each is eligible to be considered for service again next
year.
Biographical information is available on the members-only
section of our Web site. Please take the opportunity to speak with these
candidates in the coming weeks in preparation for the May 18
congregational meeting where members in good standing will cast their votes.
A current list of voting members can be found posted in our lobby and on
our Web site at www.pathwaysuu.org/pdf
_files/VotingMembersApril2008.pdf.
A full report can be found at: www.pathwaysuu.org/pdf_files/BoardSlate2008.pdf
If you have questions about any aspect of the selection or
voting process, please contact the chairperson of the Nominating Committee,
John Kent - johndkent@mac.com. The other members of the Nominating
Committee are: Peggy Browning, Lisa Efthymiou,
Kristin Robertson, and Pete DeKalb. We all appreciate this opportunity to
be of service to our church community.

Pathways to Host Pangea Day
Broadcast
Saturday, May 10,
1:00- 4:00 p.m.
In a world where people are often divided by borders,
difference, and conflict, it's easy to lose
sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that --
to help people see themselves in others -- through the power of film.
Starting at 18:00 GMT on Saturday, May 10, 2008, locations
in Cairo, Kigali,
London, Los Angeles,
Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro
will be linked via satellite for a live program of powerful films, live
music, and visionary speakers. The entire program will be broadcast -- in
seven languages -- to millions of people worldwide through the internet,
television, and mobile phones.
The 24 short films to be featured have been selected from an
international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from
over 100 countries. The films were chosen based on their ability to
inspire, transform, and allow us see the world through another person's
eyes.
The program will also include a number of exceptional
speakers and musical performers. Queen Noor of
Jordan, CNN's Christiane Amanpour,
musician/activist Bob Geldof, and Iranian rock
phenomenon Hypernova are among those taking
part.
Please RSVP for childcare by Monday, May 5, to pastor@pathwaysUU.org.
Contact Charlie Behrens at charlie.behrens@gmail.com

meditation techniques together.

New Family Accommodations During
Common Ground
A space with chairs and child-friendly diversions is available outside the Sanctuary window next to the DRE's office during Common Ground. If your child
needs a break, please feel free to use this space. We're working toward
making sound available to this area so you can hear the service clearly,
and hope to have this done in the next few weeks.

Austin, TX
The news is out about the Southwestern UU District Annual
Meeting and Spring Conference, Friday, April 25 - Sunday, April 27, 2008,
at First UU Church of Austin. The theme this year is What the World

There are optional opportunities for recreation and for ecumenical
choices: a workshop with highlights from the Jesus Seminar, another with
exploration of Adult RE work on the Qu'ran, UU
history, and an invitation to visit Barsana Dham, Austin's Hindu Temple.
The busy schedule begins this Friday, April 25, with
registration starting at 4:00 p.m., continuing with an especially

Roy Zimmerman in Concert
Tuesday, May 13,
8:00 p.m., Arlington
Wednesday, May 14,
9:00 p.m., Denton
What's
funny about war, poverty, ignorance, bigotry, neo-conservatism, homophobia,
greed, lust, and fear? Ask Roy Zimmerman. He's
been writing satirical songs for twenty years. He founded and wrote all
the material for the satirical folk quartet The Foremen, who recorded for
Warner/Reprise throughout the Nineties.
Tom Lehrer says, "I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on
reintroducing literacy to comedy songs. And the rhymes actually rhyme,
they don't just rhyne."
Joni Mitchell says, "Roy's lyrics move beyond poetry and
achieve perfection."
He's
currently touring a one-man show called Faulty Intelligence. It's a ninety-minute theatrical presentation of
Zimmerman's original songs and comic commentary.
