This Week's Sermon
Rev. Kathy Schmitz
The Birth of New
Possibilities
In some Earth-centered spiritual traditions, the beginning
of May is celebrated as a time of fertility and rebirth. This morning we
will explore the themes and images of new beginnings and the rich
possibilities that await us when we allow ourselves to be reborn into new
understandings of ourselves and our world.

Pathways to Host Pangea Day
Broadcast
Saturday, May 10,
1:00- 5:00 p.m.
In a world where people are often divided by borders,
difference, and conflict, it's easy to lose sight of what we all have in
common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that -- to help people see
themselves in others -- through the power of film.
Starting at 18:00 GMT on Saturday, May 10, 2008, locations
in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro will be
linked via satellite for a live program of powerful films, live music,
and visionary speakers. The entire program will be broadcast -- in seven
languages -- to millions of people worldwide through the internet,
television, and mobile phones.
The 24 short films to be featured have been selected from an
international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from
over 100 countries. The films were chosen based on their ability to
inspire, transform, and allow us see the world through another person's
eyes.
The program will also include a number of exceptional
speakers and musical performers. Queen Noor of Jordan, CNN's Christiane
Amanpour, musician/activist Bob Geldof, and Iranian rock phenomenon
Hypernova are among those taking part.
Please RSVP for childcare by Monday, May 5, to pastor@pathwaysUU.org.
Contact Charlie Behrens at charlie.behrens@gmail.com
or Rev. Kathy Schmitz at pastor@pathwaysUU.org
if you can help.
For more information, see the event Web site at: www.pangeaday.org.

Community Outreach Project
Saturday, May 17,
8:30-12:00 Noon
Do you share the commitment to service to our community
proclaimed in Pathways' DNA? Last February, 6 members of our congregation
spent around 3 hours helping 2 women, including a 90+ year old, wheel
chair-bound woman who needed her windows cleaned so that she could see
outside. While there, we also removed some weeds and fallen tree limbs.
And, almost as important as the work we did, we provided a few hours of
companionship and conversation.
Mid-Cities Care Corp. has many more clients who could use
our assistance, and the number of people we can serve is limited only by
the number of volunteers who wish to help. If you have 3-4 hours you can
spare on Saturday, May 17, please add your name to the list posted on the
bulletin board this Sunday or call Stan Roskoski at (817) 741-8283.
We will meet in the Pathways parking lot at 8:30 a.m.,
Saturday the 17th, and go on to our assigned locations from there.

Welcoming Congregation Movie Night
- For The Bible Tells Me So
Saturday, May 17,
7:00 p.m.
Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is
the chasm separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to
cross? Is the Bible an excuse to hate? Through the experiences of five
very normal, very Christian, very American families -- including those of
former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene
Robinson -- we discover how insightful people of faith handle the
realization of having a gay child. Informed by such respected voices as
Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve
Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech, For The Bible Tells Me So
offers healing, clarity and understanding to anyone caught in the crosshairs
of scripture and sexual identity.
Please join Pathways' Welcoming Congregation on Saturday,
May 17, at 7:00 p.m. for this movie night of the multiple award-winning For
The Bible Tells Me So from Producer/Director/Writer Daniel
Karslake.
Child care available with reservation by Tuesday, May 13.
RSVP to (817) 685-2542.

The book selection for May is Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by
Lisa See. Set in the nineteenth century in Hunan Province in China, two young girls are paired in a traditional bonding, an emotional match that will
last a lifetime. Entertainment Weekly called it, "A
marvelous narrative...a timeless portrait of a contentious,
full-blooded female friendship."

New Family Accommodations During
Common Ground
A space with chairs and child-friendly diversions is
available outside the Sanctuary window next to the DRE's office during
Common Ground. If your child needs a break, please feel free to use this
space. We're working toward making sound available to this area so you
can hear the service clearly, and hope to have this done in the next few
weeks.

Can You Help?

Roy Zimmerman in Concert
Tuesday, May 13,
8:00 p.m., Arlington
Wednesday, May 14,
9:00 p.m., Denton
What's funny about war, poverty, ignorance, bigotry, neo-conservatism,
homophobia, greed, lust, and fear? Ask Roy Zimmerman. He's been writing
satirical songs for twenty years. He founded and wrote all the material
for the satirical folk quartet The Foremen, who recorded for
Warner/Reprise throughout the Nineties.
Tom Lehrer says, "I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on
reintroducing literacy to comedy songs. And the rhymes actually rhyme,
they don't just rhyne."
Joni Mitchell says, "Roy's lyrics move beyond poetry
and achieve perfection."
He's currently touring a one-man show called Faulty
Intelligence. It's a ninety-minute theatrical presentation of
Zimmerman's original songs and comic commentary.
