This Week's Sermon
Rev. Kathy Schmitz
When Buddha
Met Christ
Drawing on the book Living Buddha, Living Christ by
Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, we explore what common ground
might be found between these important religious figures as they are
understood today.

News and Announcements
From the Pathways Board of
Trustees
The Ministerial Search Committee continues in its process of
interviewing ministerial candidates for the settled minister position.
However, as the search season nears its end, it is prudent for Pathways
to make contingency plans for a second year with an Interim Pastor. To
that end, the Board of Trustees engaged in a discernment process with
Rev. Kathy Schmitz to explore the possibility of having her stay a second
year with us. This process considered what the needs of the congregation
would be in a second year of interim, Kathy's skills and interests, and
issues of momentum and consistency, as well as the pros and cons of
having a different Interim Pastor for the second year. This discernment
has resulted in the Board and Kathy agreeing that if a candidate for
settled ministry is not found by mid-May, Kathy will remain for another
year. If necessary, this would give the Ministerial Search Committee the
opportunity to engage the new pool of potential ministers that will be
available next year. We will keep you updated as the search process
continues to unfold.

Forgiveness Workshop
Saturday, April 19,
9:00-Noon at Pathways Church
Forgiveness is a process that allows us to peel off layers
of dark emotions and reveal our connection to the Divine. It is something
we do for ourselves, to make us feel better and to allow us to travel on
our spiritual journey with a lighter load. In this three-hour workshop,
we explore and experience a seven-step process to forgiveness. Don't
arrive expecting a lecture -- the three hours will be full of both
individual and group exercises, culminating with a letting-go experience
that will free your spirit.
This transformational workshop is free to the Pathways
community (although love offerings will be accepted to offset costs). The
fee is $35 for non-Pathways members. Facilitated by Kristin Robertson. To
register, contact Kristin at (817) 577-7030 or krisrob@krconsulting.com.

Support Effective Climate Change
Legislation
Sunday, April 20,
11:00, at Pathways Church
On Sunday, April 20, following our Earth Day service, we
will have a letter writing table set up for members and friends who would
like to take action on climate change legislation. We will be using
materials provided by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA)
Washington Office for Advocacy which state:
Global climate change is already creating water
shortages and forcing large-scale human migrations. Unless we take urgent
action, it's only going to get worse, causing widespread international
conflict. The scientific community tells us that we must reduce carbon
dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions to 80% below 2000 levels by
the year 2050. Only the Sanders-Boxer (S. 309) and Waxman (H.R. 1590)
bills require the sufficient reductions. Moreover, the competing bill
benefits corporations at the expense of low-income families.

information on why the UUA endorses the Sanders-Boxer bill (S.309)

The book selection for April is the award-winning Freakonomics
by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. A quote from the Wall
Street Journal reads, "If Indiana Jones were an economist,
he'd be Steven Levitt...a maverick treasure hunter who relies for
success on his wit, pluck and disregard for conventional wisdom...Freakonomics
reads like a detective novel..."

Potluck Seder
THIS Saturday, April
12, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church, Carrollton, TX
The Passover Seder is a Jewish ritual feast of praise and
thanksgiving held on the first night of the Jewish holiday of Passover.
Families gather around the table on the night of Passover to read the
Haggadah, the story of the Israelite exodus from Egypt. Seder customs include drinking of four cups of wine, eating matza, and partaking of
symbolic foods placed on the Passover Seder Plate. With the Haggadah
serving as a guide, the Seder is performed in much the same way all over
the world.
Saturday, April 12, 4:00-6:00 p.m. in Sanders Hall at Horizon
UU Church, a potluck Seder will be held. In addition to the
potluck meal, a basket will be available for donations to defray the cost
of the ritual foods and wine. A donation of $5.00 per person or $15.00
per family is suggested, but not required. In order to get an estimated
head count, RSVPs are requested, but again not required. All are welcome.
For information, to RSVP, or to sign up to bring a certain dish, e-mail
Eileen Terrell at uuseder@horizonuu.org
or egmt@peoplepc.com.
